    3 out of 5 stars It's OK - sorta   January 1, 2009

In the last year we have purchased 4 TomTom One 3rd Editions. We loved them. But, on one, we had problems with it right out of the box. We had little luck from the store we purchased it from and not much luck with the company either. Our 3rd attempt from purchasing from the company was a winner. This purchase was in May, and so far it is working fine. The other two purchases were for Christmas presents last year (Christmas 2007). The strange thing is they are now both failing. A coincidence? I don't think so. My past experience with the support group from TomTom was not the best so I am not looking forward to this. These should have a 2 yr warranty on them and will probably have to be shipped back to their factory for repair. We had a refurbished Magellan for not quite 2 years and had to send it back. Magellan over nighted their product to us and because they no longer made the version we had, sent us a brand new updated version. This is not the case with TomTom. They take their time in shipping it back out to you. I have not come across this on any of the reviews that I have read and thought you might be interested to know my experience. I have just received a TomTom 3rd Edition as a Christmas gift this season. We'll see how this one goes, but, I'm not optimistic. I had purchased extended warranties on the gifts we purchased from a reputable chain store (I thought). I was told that they would be replaced at that time. Seems their policy changes from store to store. One store will replace it, but no longer carry the 3rd Edition so, they are out of luck and another store will only return them to TomTom to be repaired. I don't see the benefit in purchasing the extended warranty.

3 out of 5 stars can't believe they left off itineraries   January 1, 2009

I think the unit is absolutely great with one big exception. I am in shock that TomTom left off
the "itinerary function" off this unit. The software doesn't support it. I'm planning a big family
road trip, and I find that "most" TomTom's allow you to plan a trip route online and upload it to the unit,
or plan it right on the unit itself, but just not on this one. How could they leave off such a key feature
for those who want a gps unit. Major Issue

4 out of 5 stars good purchase   December 31, 2008
for the money the best gps you could buy.
The only problem with it would be not telling you which side of the street your destination is on. But the other options great as is the usability.
Has many more features than my nuvi 680.

4 out of 5 stars Good deal, pretty easy to use   December 29, 2008
Works great, easy to learn. Only gripes are that it doesn't switch automatically between day and night colors, and it's hard to slide it into its dash holder.

4 out of 5 stars NO MORE LOST IN CANADA   December 29, 2008
I LOVE MY TOM TOM! I have used it all over my immediate area and had no problems. I actually relax as I'm driving knowing that I can watch the traffic instead of street signs. A while ago I left for home from Vermont in bad weather, I ended up taking a road north in error (I was very nervous about driving in the heavy rains) and my passengers didn't notice the wrong turn either. I ended up on the Canadian border instead of the Massachusetts border. I can't wait for my next visit to the backwoods of Vermont (next week)and an uneventful trip back home.
