Amazon.com Product Description
Fashion conscious music enthusiasts looking for an advanced mobile phone with the latest music capabilities need to look no further. Incredibly compact, the tiny SGH-X830 boasts a state-of-the-art music player, a 1.3-megapixel camera with support for MPEG4 video playback, stereo Bluetooth, 1 GB of built-in memory, and more.

An innovative design with plenty of style to spare. Take a closer look at the X830's features.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides tri-band connectivity (900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.

Design
The X830's unique swing-open form factor sets it aside from traditional clamshell, candybar, or slider designs. When closed, the X830 functions like a fully loaded MP3 player complete with a full-color 128x220 screen that horizontally displays the playlist, equalizer settings, and song information. The cover features a convenient and simple-to-use circular trackpad and trackpad button that makes music management a breeze. Swinging the phone open exposes the keypad and doubles its length for use as a phone. The unit's dial pad is configured in a revolutionary two-column format instead of the traditional three, making the device even easier to hold and carry. The right side of the unit houses up/down buttons for volume control, while the rear of the device houses the built-in 1.3-megapixel camera. Competitive with high-end dedicated music players, the X830 comes with an amazing 1GB of built-in memory, offering plenty of storage for music, images, and videos. Lastly, the unit's built-in Bluetooth and USB 2.0 capability makes loading music onto the X830 fast and easy.

Calling Features
With 1 GB of internal memory, the X830 is designed to hold all the contacts, phone numbers and addresses you can throw at it (up to 1,000 of them, to be precise). A call list remembers your most recent missed, received, and dialed calls. The X830 supports polyphonic ringtones and MP3-based music ringtones. A built-in speakerphone lets you talk hands-free while you're doing other things, and picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. And because the X830 supports Bluetooth connectivity, you can use your favorite wireless headset to discreetly jam out to your favorite tunes or to take calls handsfree.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The X830 has all the bases covered when it comes to messaging. Support is built-in for sending and receiving text, video, graphics, and sound via messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the X830. It supports the GPRS protocol, as well as the new, high speed EDGE data protocol. When used with your carrier's data service and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. Lastly, the built-in email client will allow you to stay in touch while on the move.

A number of handy productivity tools are bundled with the X830 including a voice memo recorder, an alarm clock, a calculator with currency converter, a calendar, a clock with world time and stopwatch features, and a to-do list. And because the X830 supports the SyncML synchronization standard, you can easily sync your PC-based contacts.

Imaging and Entertainment
The unit's portability and compactness do not compromise the ease of use of its various multimedia functions. The feature rich X830 portable jukebox plays multiple audio formats including MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, and WMA. The circular trackpad navigation feature gives you hassle-free control of the music functions, while the built-in 1GB memory allows for storage of up to 250 songs. You can also download audio files from the CNN or BBC websites via the supported podcasting function.

The USB 2.0 connection is fast enough to handle large data volumes, and the onboard music library organizes downloaded music according to album name, song title, artist, and genre for effortless search and playback. And don't forget, the previously mentioned stereo Bluetooth feature allows you to talk handsfree or enjoy their music through a wireless stereo headset.

When it's time to capture the moment, the X830's built-in 1.3-megapixel camera captures stills and video to the phone's internal memory. The X830's camera also features a 4x digital zoom, a timer mode, a night mode, and white balance/brightness feature. Lastly, if you want to dress up the X830, picture effects, custom screensavers, and backgrounds can be set to fit your personality.

Java support is built into the X830, making it a powerful gaming companion. You can also use the handset's Bluetooth or USB data connection to load more games and files onto the phone.

The X830 also sports an airplane mode feature, which allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of a phone (such as music, games, or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.

Vital Statistics
The Samsung SGH-X830 weighs 2.60 ounces and measures 3.30 x 1.18 x 0.78 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5.2 hours of digital talk time, and up to 230 hours of standby time.

5 out of 5 stars Pleased   August 2, 2008
This cell phone is great, it has everything I need, and is unlocked, so I can use it with different services and works well, light, small, almost unnoticed and takes good pictures!

2 out of 5 stars stylish, but not so great otherwise.   December 30, 2007

I bought this phone from a local store that had unlocked phones, but I ended up returning it.

The only really good thing I can say about it is that it has a cool size and is pretty compact. The slide mechanism is pretty cool too, but a little unconventional.

Now for the bad:
The size is pretty thick for what it is in comparison with other phones, the screen is pretty small too.
There wasn't a place for an SD card, so you have to use internal memory on the phone - I didn't like that especially.
The camera was decent quality, but it's in a weird place on the back so if you're talking on the phone you probably will be smudging it.
The worst part was the number layout; at least for the US Samsung Juke, there are three rows of buttons, this phone only has two. Texting is really confusing, and it's really hard to dial a number without screwing up. Call quality was only mediocre.

Overall, I would not recommend this phone for any features except if you're looking for a stylish phone. It is only marginal in many aspects. The layout is so unconventional that the user has to learn the strange key layout before it can be used effectively -- a phone shouldn't require the user to re-learn its layout.

The size is very small but the reception is very bad. U have to keep it outside your pocket to have reception. The camera is enough 1.3mp . it is very stylish and anyone who sees it finds it amazing. The battery life is not that bad. I charge it every two days and i talk alot on the phone.it is a cool phone on the outside but not that good inside.

2 out of 5 stars Terrible Phone   March 3, 2007

Horrible battery life. I had to recharge my battery every 17 hours.

Doesn't include speakerphone option.

Poor reception, too.

In ending, it is a very compact and stylish phone.
