Amazon.com Product Description
Hot on the heels of the popular Kyocera K9 Rave phone comes the new K10 Royale, now with a brilliant color screen and support for Virgin Mobile's enhanced wireless Internet services, known as VirginXL. The sporty K10 also features Superphonic ringtones, two-way text messaging support, voice dialing, and a flashlight. There's no better way to take advantage of your Virgin Mobile service.

Take a closer look at the K10 Royale's functions.
Design
The K10 features a 104 x 80, 4,000-color color screen that displays call information, games, wireless content, and more. A stub antenna extends from the top right side of the phone while a charging port is positioned on the bottom of the unit. A 2.5mm headset jack is also provided. Most phone features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. Detachable faceplates are available, so you can dress up the phone's case to suit your style.

Calling Features
The K10's built-in address book can store up to 200 entries for quick and easy management of your contacts. The phone comes with built-in Virgin Mobile Superphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert. Superphonic ringtones feature real music tracks; even more are available via Virgin Mobile's VirginXtras service. Voice dialing of up to 10 contacts is supported, as are voice commands, so you can dial numbers and control certain functions of the phone without ever touching it.

Messaging and Internet
The K10 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text messages easily and quickly (Virgin Mobile text messaging charges apply). eZitext text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.

The phone fully supports Virgin Mobile's enhanced wireless content service, VirginXL. Use the pay-per-use service to download Superphonic ringtones, animations, and voices of the hottest recording artists. Get content and vote in TV-based polls with the MTV area of your phone, or get jokes and updates from Comedy Central. Pick a celebrity voice to answer your voice mail, or get a SpongeBob thought of the day. Need to jog your memory? Use Virgin's song ID service. Press the Song ID command, point your K10 toward a song that's playing in the room, and within minutes a text message appears identifying the song's title. There's even a "Rescue Rings" service to help get you out of sticky dating or other personal situations. The list of cool content features goes on and on.

The K10 ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar, a calculator with a tip calculator, and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
The phone features custom Virgin Mobile graphics--screen savers, wallpaper, and menu icons--that let you dress up your phone to suit your personality. There's even a built-in flashlight for when you're fumbling with your keys in the dark. For gamers, the K10 comes preloaded with two games, and more are available via the VirginXL service.

Vital Statistics
The Kyocera K10 Royale weighs 3.52 ounces and measures 4.42 x 1.92 x 0.92 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of digital talk time and up to 180 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the CDMA 1900 frequency. The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
K10 Royale handset, lithium-ion battery, AC charger, user's manual.

4 out of 5 stars cute phone   April 4, 2007

I have carried this phone for over a year. I have NEVER had a problem with it. Its very palm friendly and easy to navigate. The flashlight is great and really comes in handy, something I will miss on the snapper I just ordered. Believe me I am NOT careful with my phone, its been dropped, stepped on, shoved in places only god knows about and its still works fine. Only thing is the rubber is peeling a bit, also its difficult to find face plates other then what vm offers. I would recommend this phone

1 out of 5 stars Be very careful with Virgin.   January 24, 2007

I've had Virgin Mobile for about a year. I used the top up feature where I could top up from my phone and it would bill to my credit card. One day I was checking my credit card statement and found many duplicate charges from Virgin. When I called customer service the first rep told me that when I would attempt to top up and the transaction didn't work (which was about half the time)I had still been billed. He said he'd figure it out and get back to me. After 10 days I called again, got a different rep, went through all the bills for the last year and he told me that the "broken transactions" the first rep told me about had never happened on my account. When I asked for copies of the transactions he told me it would cost $[...] to see my past bills. I'm switching to another vendor this week.

4 out of 5 stars Bit more complicated then the K7   December 28, 2006
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I upgraded to the colored version because the phone was free on the Vmobile site BUT i think it might have been a mistake. Unlike the K7 this phone actually has to connect to the web to get balance information and games are not included free. The navigation menu is more complicated than the old phone. Only perks is the rubber grip and obviously the color which neither is that big of a deal. Fortunately its VERY simple to switch your phones and literally takes about a minute to do. I also notice some people call this phone "cheap" but don't be fooled. Light and small does not = cheap. I have dropped the K7 phone a thousand times and even in TUB OF WATER, and it still works like new. I still love the flashlight which is on both models, i can't see having a phone without the light, its so useful. Payments are simple and they always offer tons of free minutes. Of course if you are always talking on your phone then you are better off getting a subscription but for me, i hardly talk that much so this payment plan works great. I don't have to spend a fortune but am still able to communicate with people while on the go. Overall i love Vmobile, never had problems with them and even when i needed to call customer service to change phone numbers, there was no wait and it was so simple. Only dissapointment is i may return to my old K7 since it seems easier to work with.

4 out of 5 stars Good deal for low volume user   December 14, 2006

Right now Virgin Mobile is having a promotional offer: you get either the Kyocera K10 Royale or Nokia Shorty for free with $20 air time purchase. After reading the reviews for both phones, I decide to go with the K10. This phone will be for my teenage son who has been calling us from school on the pay phone when he needs to talk to us - it's time to get him his own cell.

Also, Virgin Mobile has lowered the no-monthly-fee minute to minute plan from $.25 per minute to $.18 per minute, so this is even a better deal than before. Free phone, low cost plan - perfect for what we need. Haven't really used the phone yet but I'm giving 4 stars for the value.

I imagine this is a holiday promotion only, so get one before it ends.

Merry Christmas to all.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent basic phone - though it makes you wish for the K9   October 16, 2006

The good:
It's inexpensive.
It has reasonably sized buttons.
It's got a great flashlight.
It is pretty simple to use.

The bad:
It's cheap. But not overly cheap.
It has a color display (black and white displays, like that on the K9, are easier to read in sunlight. And if you're getting a basic phone, what do you care about color?)

My experince:
I bought one for my mother (really).
I also have been buying 1-2 per week for resale. So far so good.
