Product Description
Sanyo VI2300 Phone for Sprint

Amazon.com Product Description
With a brilliant color screen, support for Sprint's Ready Link walkie-talkie capability, polyphonic ringtones, a speakerphone, and more, the svelte Sanyo VI-2300 has the essential features that keep busy folks connected.

Design
The VI-2300 follows the tried and true clamshell form factor. The large 128 x 128 color screen features support for 65,000 colors, while a smaller monochrome display on the front cover displays incoming call information, battery and signal strength, and the time and date. The phone's center selection button allows you to control the phone's menus and features, and a 2.5 mm headphone jack provides compatibility with most handsfree headsets. The Ready Link service is operated by a button on the left side of the phone-- walkie-talkie style.

Calling Features
The VI-2300's built-in address book allows you to assign up to 300 entries, each storing seven numbers, with a total capacity of up to 500 numbers, and 300 email and Web addresses. A separate Ready Link phone book provides easy access to 200 personal contacts and 200 company-provided contacts. As mentioned, polyphonic ringtones are included, and you can choose from eight multi-chord melodic ring tones and eight traditional ring tones. There's also a vibrating alert for when you want to be discreet. You can even customize the phone's Ready Link tone with one of five different options.

A handy speakerphone makes it easy to talk to callers without having the phone to your ear, and the speakerphone doubles as an audible voice machine that lets you screen your calls. Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the VI-2300 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Sprint's digital PCS network, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas. A voice dialing feature makes it possible to call your contacts by simply speaking their names. Lastly, you can customize your caller ID by assigning a downloaded image or photo to the contacts in your internal phone book.

The VI-2300's Ready Link feature lets you enjoy the convenience of quick, walkie-talkie style communication at the touch of a button with one or several Ready Link users anywhere you go (Sprint PCS Ready Link service charges apply).

Messaging, Internet and Tools
Because the VI-2300 supports PCS Vision services, messaging features are robust. You can easily send and receive email, exchange text messages, or join a chat room. Support is built in for instant messaging clients from AOL, MSN and Yahoo!, so you're never out of touch when you can't make a call. PCS Vision mobile Web services also let you check out sports scores, get your seven-day forecast, check your flight status, and stay up to date with the latest news. Experience full-color graphic versions of popular Web sites or purchase and download premium applications, games, ringers, and screensavers to your VI-2300. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built-into the unit-- a plus for mobile web and messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the VI-2300, including an alarm clock that can be set one time or daily, a calendar with a to-do list and scheduler, a calculator, and a world clock. You'll also get a voice recorder that can record up to 72 seconds of voice data or call memos. What's more, the VI-2300 features an embedded global positioning system (GPS) chip necessary for using 911 emergency location services, where available. A PC synchronization application allows you to synchronize your contacts, addresses and other data with your computer.

Games and Custom Graphics
As mentioned, the VI-2300 supports game downloads so you can pass the time while you're on the bus or the train. Meanwhile, you can customize the look of your phone with a selection of themes and skins for the phone's interface.

Vital Statistics
The Sanyo VI-2300 weighs 3.6 ounces and measures 3.34 x 1.85 x 1.05 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.25 hours of digital talk time, and up to 312 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the AMPS 850/CDMA 850/CDMA 1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
VI-2300 handset, AC battery charger, lithium-ion battery, user's manual.

5 out of 5 stars Best Cell Phone that I Have ever owned!   December 1, 2006

This is the best cellphone I have ever owned. The Speakerphone works great. I love being able to dial without opening the phone. The ability to turn on or off the guard for the side keys is fine.

I guess the only gripe I have is that the radio service is incompatible with Nextel and now that the two have merged one would expect it to improve. Since my buddy with Nextel radio (but not phone) for work just bought a cellphone that pretty much erases that gripe.

Also, the fact that it is not compatible with the Sprint travel navigator options is a bit of a drawback.

However, it works well, has a long battery life.. it is easy to use, and even the headsets from the ninety-nine cent store work with it. It is a great phone and I recently purchased one for my wife. I'm very happy with Sprint and their service.

4 out of 5 stars For the price, this is a great phone.   November 2, 2006

I got this phone 3 weeks ago in the pink color.
I have to say, that going from Samsung to Sanyo I was a bit apprehensive. But I love this VI-2300. I somewhat miss having a camera function, but really how much do you use a camera on a phone? I have an actual digital camera for that. As for this phone, I like that the ringer is very loud, and it's quite easy to program and use. The speaker works very nice on it also. I leave it on power save otherwise the battery does wear down a lot faster. If it is on power save, I can go for days without having to charge.
I would recommend this phone to anyone who wants a nice looking phone without paying an arm and a leg and that doesn't have a camera on it.

4 out of 5 stars Good Basic Phone   September 29, 2006

I was looking for an electronic manual and came across this page. After glancing over the reviews I had to respond. This phone is basic and was sold as a basic phone. It is even FREE too so that indicates BASIC.

The battery life is decent even with speaker on. I talk on it (and my other two) for over 2 hours a day with speaker because I am in traffic and hate headsets. I talked to the wife once on a 2 hour commute through the countryside and into the city without the call dropping. I live in a rural area far from a cell tower. I need external antennas with my other phones, but not this one.

So if you are looking for a BASIC phone, this is it. If not, then this isn't it!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent basic phone. Good reception, easy to use. Loud and clear sound   June 28, 2006

If you are looking for a phone that does not have a camera, and is easy to use and gets good reception, this is it. Sanyo makes the best phones in the Sprint line as far as reception is concerned. Much better than Samsungs. The sound is very loud and clear. I also dropped this phone in my cats water bowl, but after drying it on my dashboard in the sun for a day, it still works fine 3 months later.

This phone works almost anywhere any other phone will work, even in the elevator where I work. The battery consumption is low. The interface is easy to use, as is the memo-recording feature. It is small, compact, and the key guard allows you to carry it in your pocket without activating any buttons whatsoever. It will occasionally make a beep when you hit a button if you don't "silence all". To sum up:

The main advantages are:

1. good reception
2. very loud and clear sound
3. low battery consumption
4. easy user interface
5. speaker phone works well eough to use

The main drawbacks are:

1. Screen is suitable only for text messaging and general offline functions.
2. The side buttons are really easy to hit when you're trying to handle the phone and it starts the memo thing recording.
3. The LCD sub panel on the outside of the phone is too small and the number scrolls so slowly that if a number that is not in your phone book calls you, half of it is scrolled off by the time you can get the phone out of your pocket.

That's about it.
